Ride Kenya

Imagine rolling plains of golden savannah, studded here and there with Acacia trees. In their shadows wildebeest shelter and a giraffe reaches into the canopy to feed on the soft green foliage.

Imagine in the foreground, horses' ears pricked forward.

The rest is harder to imagine; the surge of excitement as you gather the reins, the trot turns to a canter and the canter to a gallop. The plains begin to unroll under you to the beat of horses' hooves...

A horse safari with Ride Kenya is an experience one will never forget. The operation is nestled in the foothills of the Chyulu Hills in southern Kenya, with panoramic views of Mt. Kilimanjaro. We offer tailor-made horse riding holidays in a truly unique part of Kenya.

Together with Ol Donyo Wuas lodge, Ride Kenya is the only safari operator to be based on Mbirikani, a 300,000 acre Maasai Group Ranch overlooking Mount Kilimanjaro. We have a concession and rights on the ranch which allows us to offer you exclusive access to one of the last, completely unfenced and true wilderness areas of Kenya. This particular concession has six distinct ecosystems, each with its own unique set of plants and animals, ranging from vast and rolling savannah plains, to acacia woodland and even jungle-like mist forests that cloak the hilltops. The focal part of the ranch is the Chyulu Hills, which rise from 3000 feet to 7500 feet and run for 40 miles.

In addition to the Group Ranch, Ride Kenya has access to 500,000 acres of the Amboseli eco system. The varied and expansive landscapes in the region allow for rides lasting anywhere from 2 to 14 days. Due to the lack of water in the hills, wildlife is more prolific in the low country where we have 38 recorded species of large mammals including all the big five - Elephant, Rhino, Lion, Leopard and Buffalo, plus the plains game dominated by zebra, wildebeest and eland. There is also a huge variety of bird and plant life to be found in this area.

Riders can choose to stay either at Ol Donyo Wuas Lodge each night, riding out from there daily, or can choose to go on a mobile safari, during which we ride between tented camps all over the ranch and beyond. A combination of both is also possible.

All rides are lead by owner/operators Patrick Stanton and Nicola Young, a young couple with infectious enthusiasm for their horses and the African bush.
