"I confess, I had envisaged heading into the bush as soon as I arrived but I jettisoned this plan, having been seduced by my cottage. Accommodation at Ol Donyo Wuas is in double thatched cottages; mine, Kushoto (El Mau), turned out to be a palatial home on stilts, the bedroom alone the size
of my little London flat."
Laura Bailey, The Sunday Telegraph:

After 21 years, Ol Donyo Wuas was starting to look jaded and the decision was made to rebuild rather than to patch. Towards the end of 2007, the old rooms were torn down and a fresh, new Ol Donyo Wuas reopened in July 2008 to enthusiastic reviews.

Today, Ol Donyo has a total of 22 beds in seven stand alone lodges. Some are two bed lodges, while others are four bed lodges with their own private lounges and swimming pool. These four bed lodges are perfect for families or small groups of friends who prefer that extra privacy.

All bedrooms now have spacious ensuite bathrooms with superb views, a shower and bath, twin vanities, a flush loo with an additional outdoor shower for those who prefer the outdoors.

All room (except the Hide) have their own rooftop sundowner / "star-beds" spot where guests enjoy dramatic views over the plains and onto Mount Kilimanjaro. More adventurous guests have the option to sleep out safely on these rooftops to enjoy a night sleeping under the stars.

The lighting is solar powered as is the hot water of the showers, with an emergency back-up system for overcast days.

Starting from the East, or as one looks out towards Kilimanjaro, from the left, the rooms are:

Asali (Right): This is a one bedroom lodge
Sambu (Left): This is a four bedroom family lodge with a shared lounge and a private swimming pool

Mpiya: This is a one bedroom lodge
Sirra: This is a two bedroom lodge which has been designed to work equally well for a family or for two couples who don't know each other. Sirra has separate and independent bedrooms, each with their own pools

Nyati: This is a two bedroom lodge with separate and independent bedrooms, each with their own pools that can be booked by a family or it can be booked by two couples who don't know each other
El Mau: This is a two bedroom lodge with separate and independent, bedrooms, each with their own pools that can be booked by a family or it can be booked by two couples who don't know each other Kanga: At certain times of the year, Kanga may be utilised when its resident, The Maasailand Preservation Trust co-ordinator, is away from the lodge. Kanga is a two bedroom lodge, with its own dining room, lounge and waterhole that is located to the east of the main lodge

The Hide: This is a one bedroom guest room that is located next to the wildlife waterhole below
Ol Donyo Wuas.  The bathroom is located downstairs below the bedroom with its own shower, loo and basin.

Ol Donyo Wuas' living and dining area was knocked down and rebuilt and has a whole new feel and character to it, without loosing its homely atmosphere. The dining room has been extended and now includes an outdoor brunch area under the acacia tree. The main pool survived the demolishing and remains intact.
